And the Winner Is?

Not Josh. . . . we just had the annual cub scout pinewood derby this year and sad to say, Josh did not place. Brian and Josh and Mike had lots of fun doing their cars (Josh's was The King from Cars and Mike's was a triceratops car) but they just weren't fast enough. The kid that won actually borrowed his car from someone else. . . maybe there is a lesson to be learned here. But, nonetheless, here are some highlights:

I Did It!!!

Here are some pictures of the course. . . they put up
"inspiring" signs like this all over!

After 8 weeks of training, I did my first 1/2 marathon. It is called Robie Creek, and is the hardest 1/2 in the Northwest. You have to run the first 8 miles up a mountain and then go down the back side the last 5. It was tough, but I got it done in 2 hours and 48 minutes. I was a good experience, except it does mess with your self-esteem a little when 60-70 year old guys can beat your time, but hey, there is always next year!

The Toothbrush

Tina and I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Salt Lake City for our birthdays this weekend. It was a very enlightening trip. . . we got to go to a temple session, which, when we got done, we got to go to a special room that sits behind the Holy of Holies-it was awesome! We got to hear MOTAB perform, and sing "You'll Never Walk Alone". It was inspiring. But, the only drawback to going to Temple Square on a Saturday is that there are a lot of weddings, and where there are a lot of weddings, there are a lot of families. . . lots of parents running around after their toddlers. . .it made me miss Luke. But, tonight I was reminded that he is with us.

I had put our old lamps on Craigslist tonight to see if I could sell them. Well, it only took 2 hours and someone wanted to buy them. He came to pick them up and I mentioned to him that we also had a log bed for sale, which he wanted to see. While I was showing him how the metal bed frame is attached to the log bed frame, I found Luke's old toothbrush wedged on the side where the bed skirt hangs. . . .

Here is the kicker. . . I had, just last week, stripped that bed to wash all the bedding and flipped the mattress and even vacuumed where that toothbrush was and never saw it until tonight.

I remember when I bought that toothbrush, because he only had it for a few days before he lost it. . . . . . .for me to find. . . . . tonight. . . .when I missed him so much. And if all that isn't enough, the toothbrush has Cookie Monster on it with the word Cookie.

We sure do miss you Cookie Lukey. Thanks for stopping by, son. We love you!

April Foolin'

Today started with Josh waking me up at 6:56 saying "Wake up Mom it's 6:30 and we are going down stairs to watch TV. . . April Fools!!!" because it was actually 7:00. I tried all day to come up with a BRILLIANT joke to play on them, but could not find one that was good enough. Then Tina, amazing, wonderful, deceiving, Tina, came up with a plan. Let's make April Fool's dinner. . . a feast of grilled cheese sandwiches made of sliced pound cake, toasted, and then filled with orange frosting. And cupcakes made of meatloaf with mashed potato frosting. It was great. . . they never knew what hit them!!! Here are the results:
